Demonstration Testbeds
Demonstration Testbeds
Rapid Risk Mitigation: Testbeds allow real-time demonstrations of novel methods on a small to mid-scale to de-risk implementation of emerging technologies, accelerate technology adoption by end-users, and attract funding from potential investors. GCWT will create use-relevant testbed or demonstration facilities in Arizona designed and maintained to provide real-world evaluation of emerging technologies (commercially available, associated with Arizona start-ups, or evolved through ASU researchers and start-ups). Physical testing facilities that advance technology readiness level and provide feedbacks to research teams, GCWT also envisions creating digital twins of currently operating full-scale desalination or other treatment systems aligned with GCWT roadmaps. Testbeds will be located at partner sites, where both research discovers and actionable information for end-user partners will be created. Testbeds will be supported by engineering staff and students, and open to users within GCWT, or external companies/start-ups based upon a fee structure.
We have initiated and seeking partners around these testbeds:
- Manufacturing & Water Technology Testbed: Develop, commercialize, and deploy water treatment and reuse technology that supports energy production, microchip manufacturing, information technology, industrial cooling, etc.
- Desalination and Brine Management Testbed: Develop, commercialize, and deploy technology for desalinating brackish groundwater or Gulf of California water and solutions to convert brine waste streams into commercially viable chemicals or products
- Groundwater Treatment Technology Testbed: Develop, commercialize, and deploy technology to increase cost-effectiveness of brackish groundwater desalination or PFAS destruction
- 22st Century Ag Technology Testbed: Develop, commercialize, and deploy advanced technology to enhance agricultural operations, water for irrigation and waste management in farm, food processing, food and beverage, vertical farming using treated wastewater
- Rural water treatment testbed: Develop, commercialize and deploy technologies to treat pollutants in rural waters at the community (point of entry) or private home well-water (point of use) scales
